Whakata Collection

Named for a Mauri word meaning, to catch breath, rest, have a break, the Whakata collection is meant as a post-activity shoe. The collection consists of a trail sandal, suede mule and puffy camp shoe. My role for this project included upper, tooling and materials design.

The Whakata collection re-introduced sandals to the Oboz line and are the foundation of the “Camp” category. Inspired by a pinecone, the tooling package was designed as a chassis that would allow multiple upper types on the same set of tooling. The drop-in footbed varies to accommodate sandal or shoe construction.
